“Now I'm better at reading and writing.”
Eight-year-old Ian attends a Toybox supported project based in Guatemala City, which offers support and guidance to children at risk of becoming connected with the streets. At the project, children like Ian have the opportunity to develop essential skills that will enable them to build a more secure and promising future.
Since joining the project, Ian has made progress in both his reading and writing and his teacher has already seen an improvement in his literacy skills. He has also formed a close friendship with another child at the project, which makes him happy. Ian particularly enjoys painting, participating in the outdoor activities and reading while at the project.
On a typical day, Ian goes to school from 7am until midday. In the afternoons, he helps his mother with household chores and plays, before heading to the project. Like many children his age, Ian's favourite activity is playing football - especially with his cousins.
Looking ahead, Ian would like to learn to swim and has dreams of becoming a professional footballer, inspired by his role model, Messi. With the support of the project, Ian is developing the confidence and skills to he needs to follow his dreams, givng him a strong foundation for a bright future.
